Advantages
A pleasant town with enough shops for all your needs at normal prices. Easy to get to Les Arcs on the funicular. I preferred staying in Bourg St Maurice than in the town. The Les Arcs ski area is extensive but a lot of the lifts were closed when we were there due to winds and avalanche risk.
Inconveniences
I don't personally do much après-ski but my daughters thought there was very little in Bourg St Maurice itself.

Advantages
High so snow secure. Compact and easy to access all of resort. Good connection to Arc 1950.
Inconveniences
Mostly above tree line, so crossing to Arc 1600/1800 is better in poor light. Parking expensive, but free parking available outside resort.
